Exericse 3: Point of View

For exercise 3, I was asked to create my own POV record of an event. I decided on capturing the event of me making flapjacks.

First I decided to write out my plan for each section/part/step of the event:

  • 1. Getting ingredients from the fridge
  • 2. Getting ingredients from the cupboard
  • 3. Get a weighing scale
  • 4. Weighing butter
  • 5. Weighing sugar
  • 6. Weighing oats
  • 7. Putting butter, sugar, and golden syrup in the pan
  • 8. Put heat on
  • 9. Melt ingredients and stir
  • 10. Add oats
  • 11. Stir
  • 12. Grease the baking tray
  • 13. Add baking paper
  • 14. Add oat mix
  • 15. Flatten with a spatula
  • 16. Wait for the light to go on oven
  • 17. Put in the oven
  • 18. Set timer
  • 19. Timer goes off
  • 20. Take out of the oven

My 21 images of my chosen process:

1. Getting ingredients from the fridge

2. Getting ingredients from the cupboard

3. Get a weighing scale

4. Weighing butter

5. Weighing sugar

6. Weighing oats

7. Putting butter, sugar, and golden syrup in the pan

8. Put heat on

9. Melt ingredients and stir

10. Add oats

11. Stir

12. Grease the baking tray

13. Add baking paper

14. Add oat mix

15. Flatten with a spatula

16. Wait for the light to go on oven

17. Put in the oven

18. Set timer

19. Alarm goes off

20. Take out of the oven

Next, I needed to reduce all of my images and place them onto 3 (and a bit) nine-panel grids:

Evaluation:

I think my comic narrative series of 20 images worked out well, you can see the process and what I am doing well. I think the number of images I drew are an ideal amount as it shows all the steps in detail. You can tell that I have baked something in the oven, I think if I were to develop this exercise further I would maybe include fabrics and texture and maybe incorporate the image of a real flapjack on the image so that the viewer knows what I have baked.

I spent quite a lot of time on this exercise as I actually drew the panels in between baking an actual batch of flapjacks 🙂
